It truly is all about the Benjamins for hip-hop mogul Sean "Puffy" Combs. The industry heavyweight, 44, topped Forbes' list of the five wealthiest artists in hip-hop this year.
The artist formerly known as Diddy has a whopping $700 million to his name, brought in by multiple ventures in the entertainment industry. Combs, who returned to his Puff Daddy roots this year, made major money on his new cable network Revolt TV, and also saw income from his music projects and side endeavors including his Ciroc label vodka and Sean John clothing line.
The "Big Homie" rapper's massive wealth put him at the top of his field, ahead of other big names. Aftermath Entertainment leader Dr. Dre took the No. 2 spot at $550 million. Born Andre Young, the mogul saw widespread success with his Beats by Dre headphones, which make up a large part of his income.
Third on the list was Mr. Beyonce Knowles, Jay Z. Shawn Carter clocked in at $520 million from a variety of revenue streams. Hov sold his Rocawear label for $204 million in 2007, continuing his earnings through his stadium tours, album sales, and recent venture into the sports representation world through Roc Nation Sports.
Rounding out the top five were Bryan "Birdman" Williams and Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson at the fourth and fifth spots, respectively. Birdman counted $160 million from his star-studded Cash Money Records company, clothing line, and vodka brand. 50 brought in a whole lot of cents with a personal wealth of $140 million. While some of his earnings do still come from his music career, a large part of his income came from a deal with Vitmainwater.
