Jim Carrey blasts California governor as a 'corporate fascist' in antivaccination Twitter rant

Funny man Jim Carrey was not joking around Tuesday when he took to Twitter to voice his displeasure with a law passed by California Governor Jerry Brown earlier in the day, eliminating the option for parents to abstain from vaccination due to religious or personal beliefs. 

The new law requires all school-aged children to undergo 10 complete vaccinations before enrolling in California schools.

Carrey said via Twitter, “This corporate fascist must be stopped,” referring to Gov. Brown.

And he didn’t stop there:

The “Dumb and Dumber” star has been public about his thoughts on the mercury levels used in vaccinations since his previous relationship with Jenny McCarthy, who is an outspoken anti-vaccine campaigner, believing it led her son to become autistic. 

But in his Twitter rant last night, Carrey was quick to point out he’s actually pro-vaccine:

“The science is clear that vaccines dramatically protect children against a number of infectious and dangerous diseases,” Gov. Brown wrote after signing the law, reported by the San Jose Mercury News. “While it’s true that no medical intervention is without risk, the evidence shows that immunization powerfully benefits and protects the community.”

The dangers of thimerosal in vaccines, as Carrey tweets above, seem to be unwarranted. According to Dr. Dennis Cunningham, an infectious disease specialist at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, thimerosal has never been shown to be harmful.

Carrey was not the only celebrity who voiced their disagreement with the new law (Senate Bill 277) on Twitter.
