Jeffrey Katzenberg is recovering from surgery and a brief stay at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center following a car accident in Beverly Hills on Oct. 19.
The DreamWorks Animation CEO made his first public appearance following the accident on Oct. 23 at GLSEN's Respect Awards, held at the Beverly Wilshire, less than 24 hours after being released from the hospital.
Sporting a neon pink cast enclosed in an over-the-shoulder sling, Katzenberg — accompanied by wife Marilyn at the event, for which the couple served as honorary co-chairs — was quick to give credit to a certain individual for the fact that he made it out alive.
"Thank you, Elon Musk — you saved my life," Katzenberg told The Hollywood Reporter. And while it's unclear who caused the accident, Katzenberg then offered a few details about the seriousness of the collision.
"I shattered my arm and wrist and destroyed the car,” said Katzenberg, known to drive a Tesla Model S. “It was pretty bad. It was a big surgery and not fun."
Late Monday, Musk graciously responded on Twitter to Katzenberg's praise. "Compliment from Jeffrey is much appreciated, but the people of Tesla deserve all the credit," Musk tweeted.
The Beverly Hills Police Department did not respond to a request for comment.
On a lighter note, Katzenberg then smiled and said, "I'm on my way back."
And he's not slowing down, either. Katzenberg and his pink cast will take center stage (and likely be a conversation starter) when he receives the first-ever Sid Grauman Award presented by Hill Valley at Friday night's American Cinematheque Awards at the Hyatt Regency in Century City.
