J.K. Rowling announces she's writing brand new stories about brand new wizards

In an exclusive Entertainment Weekly video announcement, "Harry Potter" fansite Pottermore announced the pending arrival of brand new writing from J.K. Rowling. The stories will focus entirely on the existence of magic, witches, and wizards in North American history.

(And, yes, it's fictional. Rowling will be using real historical events, but work in magic and wizardry to provide explanations for why these events occurred.)

"The wizarding world you thought you knew is much larger than you imagined," a male voice says as the pages to a book flip open. Watch the video teaser below:

The teasers shows glimpses of ships on the sea, an Animagus (witch or wizard who can change into an animal at will), and hints about the Salem Witch Trials. 

Rowling's new stories will likely shed light on what she's imagined as the "American version" of Hogwarts: Ilvermorny (pronounced Ill-ver-morn-ee). So far we only know the school's name, but the video showed a quick peek into the magical castle.

"These aren’t myths," the mysterious voice promises. "For the history of America is more amazing than you could ever imagine."

Rowling's entire new series will be called "Magic in North America." According to Pottermore's announcement, "the first installment of this exciting new series is called ‘History of Magic in North America’ and will be published on Pottermore in four pieces, starting [March 8] at 2 p.m. GMT."

Each succeeding story will be published at 2 p.m. GMT every day until Friday, March 11.

This announcement is not the first time we're hearing about new works from J.K. Rowling. The author has written the screenplay for the upcoming "Harry Potter" spinoff, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," and she has also co-written the "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" two-part play set to premiere this spring in London.
