- Grace Kelly was one of the most famous and beloved actresses in the world when she announced that she would be marrying Prince Ranier of Monaco.
- The couple had three children including Princess Caroline, 61, who recently opened up about her relationship with her famous mother.
- The two weren't very close, and Caroline recalled being much closer with her nanny than her parents.
A new book was released in honor of Prince Albert of Monaco's sixtieth birthday, entitled "Albert II of Monaco, The Man and The Prince." In excerpts released from the book, Princess Caroline (his older sister) was candid about her relationship with her parents, specifically her mother who was film-star-turned-princess Grace Kelly.
In the book, she revealed that she wouldn't even eat dinner in the same room as her parents until she was 14 years old. She went on to say that the most important adult in her life as a child was their nanny, Maureen Wood — in her own words, "When we were little, we were probably closer to our nanny than to our parents.”
Caroline and her brother Albert were so close to Maureen (nicknamed Nana), that the two would cry and beg her to come back from her summer vacation. Caroline shared that "Albert and I would yell "Don’t go, don’t go!" We were sad for days," and that their mother would often ask Maureen to return early.
Wood also lent her voice to the book, telling a story about a fun night that the she had with Caroline and Albert after they were upset they had been left behind while their parents attended the wedding of King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie. She recalled that she "decided that we would have our own gala dinner at the Palace. The Chef cooked a special menu, Caroline wore one of her mother’s gown, Albert wore a uniform, and I wore a gown too. Then we put on music, and we danced."
It seems that even though Caroline didn't have the closest relationship with her parents, she still had a wonderful childhood and remains close with her siblings.
She's also a mother now herself, and seems to enjoy a very close relationship with her children.
