The college application process can be expensive, time-consuming, and super stressful, but one student in New Orleans, Louisiana, just made it look like a breeze.
Darrin Francois, a senior at International High School of New Orleans, has been accepted to 83 schools and $3 million in scholarships, according to WGNO ABC.
If you're thinking that's an astronomical number of schools to apply to, you're right. Francois told ABC he actually lost track of the how many colleges he actually applied to.
"I just applied, applied, applied. I didn't know how many it was, so once they started to come through the mail, I was like oh my gosh, this many? Then, they started coming more, more, and more," he said. "Now, today, I have 83 now."
Francois' mom Bridget told ABC that she's proud of her son's success.
"Eighty-three colleges? That is wonderful, that is a blessing from God," she said. "I'm very proud, a proud mother to see my son go forward into his success and go forward into his goals."
So how'd he do it? IHS includes time for college applications in students' schedules. "I think we got on some of their nerves to be honest with you, but we continued to hammer at them to let them know that the world is yours if you reach out and get it," Rufus Mcgee, the director of student support services, told ABC.
This work ethic seems to have paid off. This year, IHS has seen a record number of scholarship funding and over a dozen students have been admitted into over 20 colleges each — but Francois currently holds the record with his impressive tally of 83.
The high school senior offered just one piece of advice to other students applying to colleges: "Just stay true to yourself, if you know you're going to get in, you're going to get in," he told ABC.
Francois has yet to reveal his school pick.
