- There are some small measures Meghan Markle takes so she always looks camera-ready.
- Instead of piling on layers of makeup, Markle opts to keep it natural with sweeps of highlighter under her eyes and along her cheekbones.
- When she's not wearing elongating monochromatic outfits, she's pulling off bold-colored looks that "pop" on camera.
- She typically sits on the "duchess slant"— with her legs at an angle and her ankles crossed.
The Duchess of Sussex is arguably one of the most photographed women ever. And whether she’s watching a game of tennis at Wimbledon or making an appearance at a charity event, she always looks like, well, royalty. Here, seven things we learned from observing the always-photogenic Markle.
She prioritizes glowing skin over lots of makeup
Meghan’s luminescence has earned its own moniker: Markle’s sparkle. According to her longtime makeup artist Daniel Martin that famous glow can be attributed to a golden highlighter that is strategically placed under eyes and along cheekbones.
She keeps her hair unfussy
There’s nothing stiff or stodgy about Meghan’s mane. In fact, you’ll notice that her go to ‘do usually consists of face-framing (read: cheek slimming) waves and tons of shine. One of her former stylists revealed that she favors the Kérastase Oleo Relax line to keep her strands smooth and photo-ready at all times.
She goes for head-to-toe ensembles
Nine times out of ten, you’ll find Markle in sleek monochromatic outfits, which have an elongating effect. Bonus points for tailored accents like a matching belt that will cinch in your waist and create a flattering silhouette no matter which angle you’re being photographed at.
She favors bold palettes
Want to pop on camera? Go for a bright yellow, a candy pink or a brilliant cerulean and you’ll be the star of the show. Add a pair of nude heels to visually lengthen your frame.
She angles her body when standing
Speaking of shoes, if you look down at Meghan’s feet she often crosses them right at her ankles and puts her weight on her front foot to create a slight angle when facing the camera. Keep your arms loose (not perched on your hips) for a less staged pose.
She slants her legs when sitting
Borrowing a page from her sister-in-law, Meghan has adopted the “duchess slant,” which you can copy by clasping your knees and ankles together and tilting them to one side. It’s the perfect move for when you’re wearing a dress or skirt because it makes your legs look slimmer (and protects your modesty).
She keeps her smile relaxed
The number one attribute to Markle’s signature sparkle? Her sense of ease. Even in sky-high heels and form-fitting dresses, she comes across as relaxed, thanks in part to her natural, not-trying-too-hard smile. In other words, don’t duck-face or Vanna White it. Just think of something actually funny and let your god-given happy face shine through.
