angelina jolie pitt kids

Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, one half of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's youngest set of twins, is set to star opposite her mother in Disney's "Maleficent."

And the four-year-old doesn't come cheap.

"According to a minor's contract filed with the court, little Viv commands $3,000/week!"reports TMZ.

On top of that, Vivienne will also reportedly receive a per diem of $60/day to play the role of "Young Aurora," the child version of Elle Fanning's Princess Aurora.

"Maleficent" is a live-action reimagining of the fairy tale "Sleeping Beauty" told from the perspective of the horned villainess, played by Angelina Jolie.

The 3-D film also stars Juno Temple, Sam Riley, Brenton Thwaites, India Eisley, Miranda Richardson and Kenneth Cranham and is slated for a March 2014 release.

"It's a really great script, and I'm having a lot of fun," Jolie told Entertainment Weekly in March 2012, three months before shooting began. "I've already got my horns fitted. My kids are very happy."

Fellow Brangelina kids Pax and Zahara are also rumored to have small roles in the film, though no word on their paycheck just yet.

Check out Jolie as the titular role in "Maleficent" below:

Scarlett Johansson Says She Didn't Get 'Les Mis' Role After Botched Audition

Scarlett Johansson

Anne Hathaway is up for an Academy Award for her role as Fantine — a prostitute with a heart of gold — in this year's "Les Misérables."

But before Hathaway filled Fantine's bustier, a number of Hollywood's top actresses were vying for the role.

Among them, Scarlett Johansson, who was previously rumored to be in the running for the role of Eponine which ended up going to newcomer Samantha Barks.

Johansson recently opened up to Broadway.com, which asked the actress whether she had auditioned for the part.

"Yes, I did. I sang my little heart out," the 28-year-old "Avengers" actress revealed for the first time.

But there was one hitch: "I auditioned with laryngitis ... I did everything I could to, like, not have laryngitis."

Not that she was nervous about it, adding "The jazz hands kid inside me was just over the moon!"

But, alas, Johansson has come to accept that the role wasn't meant to be.

"I think, looking at the film now, there's no possible way I ever could have topped that performance [by Anne Hathaway]," she explains. "It was perfect and I think fateful and meant to be."

But it did remind her of auditioning for the role of Cosette when she was a child and "it was fun for me to revisit that," she says.

Johansson is currently channeling her younger stage actress self on Broadway in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof."

"Lucky for me, it all worked out," she continued to Broadway.com. "It’s great to be back. It’s very exciting to have the opportunity to bring Tennessee Williams to life every night and share that with the audience, who’ve been really enthusiastic."

Kate Middleton

Chi magazine, the Italian publication which printed topless photos of Kate Middleton vacationing in France last fall — has now decided to run pictures of the pregnant Duchess frolicking on the beach in a bikini while on private holiday in the Caribbean last week.

The photos, taken with a long lens, reportedly feature Middleton in a blue bikini walking arm-in-arm on the beach with Prince William, also in his swimwear.

"We are disappointed that photographs of the Duke and Duchess on a private holiday look likely to be published overseas," a spokesman for the couple at St. James's Palace tells People magazine. "This is a clear breach of the couple's right to privacy."

The photos are also expected to be printed in a yet to be named U.S. tabloid magazine.

It’s not yet known whether St. James’s Palace will take legal action against the publication.

Mila Kunis Ellen DeGeneres

Mila Kunis initially played ball with Ellen DeGeneres when the talk show host asked about the actress' love life.

Kunis revealed that while she "never really put much emphasis” on Valentine's Day, she would like "something simple, sweet and meaningful. Flowers are nice. Who doesn’t like chocolate?”

But when DeGeneres asked about Kunis' former "That 70's Show" co-star and current boyfriend Ashton Kutcher, the actress wasn't as forthcoming and broke into a fit of nervous laughter.

“How is he doing? Do you talk to him at all? When’s the last time you talked to him?” DeGeneres deadpanned. ”I’m just asking. It’s a showbiz question.”

“It’s been, give or take, a couple of minutes,” replied Kunis, looking as uncomfortable as ever.

We Tried Karlie Kloss' Momofuku Cookie And Here's What We Thought

Karlie Kloss cookies

Karlie Kloss has been hawking her "Perfect 10 Kookie"behind-the-scenes at fashion week, on her Instagram and by literally handing them out on the streets of New York City.

The cookie is a collaboration between the 20-year-old model and Momofuku Milk Bar benefiting the Feed Foundation.

For every "Perfect 10 Kookie" sold, Feed will provide ten school meals to hungry children around the world.

The gluten-free cookie — made up mainly of almond flour, agave and mini chocolate chips  is similar to Momofuku's less-healthy compost cookie, which contains chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, coffee, graham cracker crust, pretzels and even potato chips.

We tasted Karlie's slightly-healthier kookie today at the Business Insider office:

Karlie Kloss Cookie

Here are the reviews from Business Insider reporters:

  • "Not as good as Compost Cookies, but I also don't complain about cookies." — Dylan Love
  • "Tasty. They're not rock-hard like most cookies. Definitely not as good as Compost cookies but a close second if they're actually healthier." — Alyson Shontell
  • "I'm all about gluten-free products, but it seemed like there was something missing here. It was certainly chocolaty enough, but very chewy, and not in a Chips Ahoy kind of way. It was more like eating dry oats." — Kirsten Acuna
  • "I'm really into gluten, but I would definitely eat another one." — Laura Stampler
  • "I thought the perfect 10 kookie had a disproportionate amount of nuts and oats compared to chocolate and actual cookie. It was very soft though, which I did like a lot. This wouldn't be my first choice if presented with different options." — Kevin Smith
  • "Not quite a compost cookie, but I liked it. It wasn't too sweet and didn't make me feel gross after eating it." — Leah Goldman

Looks like the people in this office would prefer an actual compost cookie to its healthier, model-endorsed counterpart.

Not that we were complaining too much:

Larry Ellison Might Buy An Airline

Larry Ellison and airplane

How do you top buying 97 percent of a Hawaiian island?

Buy a Hawaiian airline to help people get there.

Oracle CEO Larry Ellison is rumored to be buying Island Air, reports Dave Segal at the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, citing two unnamed sources said to be familiar with Ellison's plans.

Island Air is a small airline that specializes in interisland flights, including daily flights to Ellison's island, Lanai.

The airline has confirmed a sale is in process but hasn't announced the buyer. A PR person for the airline told the Pacific Business News that the buyer was an investment firm and hinted that Ellison was not involved.

On the other hand, the airline's former CEO, who left the job on December 31, now works for Ellison's Hawaiian company, Lanai Resorts, Segal reports.

So there are definitely ties between Ellison and the airline.

Owning an airline would be in character. Ellison is himself a pilot who collects planes and his son is a stunt pilot, too.

The population and tourist trade on Lanai is booming since Ellison purchased the island. The five daily ferry boats between Lanai and its closest neighbor, Maui, are packed. As the island prospers, transportation to it will become an ever bigger issue.

Oracle had no comment on Ellison's potential purchase of Island Air.

Plum TV President Tells Us Why He Wants The $100K Customer

$
0
0

Morgan Hertzan Plum TV

After co-founding LXTV, longtime TV executive Morgan Hertzan acquired, and is now co-president of, Plum TV — a lifestyle network reaching more than 5 million of the most affluent viewers in the country.

Among cable channels, its reach is tiny — but that's the point. Plum is targeted at a niche, upscale audience, and it's not for everybody.

Plum TV is currently distributed on broadcast and cable TV in Los Angeles, Boston, Philadelphia, the Hamptons, Colorado, at PlumTV.com, and on Plum TV's video on demand iPhone app.

We talked to Hertzan, who tells Business Insider he is going after the "$100K customer not the $500K customer," to discuss the importance of multi-platform content for a focused, upper-middle class audience.

Business Insider: What makes Plum TV different from other TV networks?

Morgan Hertzan: The thing that makes us unique is that we decided to pursue a strategy of over-the-air broadcast for distribution. It is a very challenging environment for independent networks with cable providers these days and I think that if you are one of the small guys, the way that you can thrive is by having your content in as many places as possible and that includes your content being on things like YouTube and Hulu.

Plum TVBut I also believe being on linear television — I think you can't be on one place or the other. You need to be everywhere and I think as independent as possible. If you aren't doing deals directly with cable operators it's very difficult to get your content in as many places as you need if you're small, so what we decided to do is work with over-the-air broadcasters. It allows us — because of 'must carry,' you know FCC 'must carry' rules — it allows us to get our contact on cable and also in lots of other places too. On YouTube, on Hulu, on over-the-air, basically anywhere that we want.

BI: Why do you feel it's so important to put all content online? Is that taking away from people needing to tune into Plum or another network if you have the content online already?

Morgan Hertzan Sara Gore LXTVMH: If people see something in one place and like it, they're more likely to consume it in a lot of other places. So if you see something online and say, 'gosh I really like this show' and you also know it's on TV you're more likely to then watch the TV show. So online is, in addition to being its own revenue stream and its own destination, it's also a great place to generate sampling so people who may not be watching Plum on TV are able to watch it online.

I think there's such overwhelming evidence in our business that each helps the other. I don't believe that one cannibalizes the other, I think that each helps the other. If you look at all the trends, media consumption is rising, people are watching more online, but they are also watching more TV than ever and I think those two things are related because people are watching stuff online and saying 'I love it online and I love it on television and I'm going to watch it more and more and more.'

BI: With Plum, do you see that more people are going to the website or watching it on TV; what do your numbers say?

Downton AbbeyMH: It's difficult for us to get into those kind of metrics. [Hertzan declined to elaborate on ratings and numbers.] If you want an example you can look at something like "Downton Abbey" that premiered on television, had a lot of interest, then went off the air and people downloaded it and watched it on iTunes and consumed it tremendously digitally and then when it came back on TV it had gangbuster ratings. I don't think "Downton" could have a premiere like it did without all of the digital viewing that it's had when it went off television for six months or whatever it been. There's lots of examples like that, where shows are on TV, then go off TV then the audience consumes them and samples them and when they come back on TV the numbers are bigger.

[Sidenote: Plum TV is producing a new show titled "Weekend Aristocrats" — the first reality spin on "Downton Abbey" set to premiere on air February 17 and on Hulu the following day. The show goes inside the struggle of Lords and Ladies to keep their ancestral homes by doing the once unthinkable to earn some extra cash — inviting in American tourists as overnight guests.]

BI:Plum appeals to a different, often wealthier, audience. What is the advantage of audience targeting?

MH: What you're seeing in the media landscape right now are two things that are doing very well. Very big, broad services like ABC or TNT — things that are very, very appealing to everyone — there's still a place for things like the Olympics and the Golden Globes and the Oscars.

But then you have the other side where you're seeing success is in much more targeted programming, and I think that it's difficult to be in the middle, you either want to be the big guy that appeals to everyone or you want to be a kind of great specialty product that has a very loyal and dedicated audience.

I think what we decided to do with Plum is say we are a network that is really focusing in on this idea of living the good life. We're not super upscale, we're not for super-duper wealthy folks but what we really are for is people that enjoy great food, great trips, taking care of themselves, spending time with their families.

I think that's a little bit of a different brand position than there is in the market place. So we're really pursuing this multitask strategy.

We think that in this space there's a place for premium content — original content — and we think that appeals to an audience that appeals to advertisers.

Plum TVBI: Do you think that it's more important to have a wealthy audience than a large audience?

MH: I wouldn't say that it's important to have a wealthy audience, I think that it's important to have either a very cohesive target audience or a large audience. The most valuable thing in media is a huge audience, right under that is a very targeted audience. What you don't want to have is a kind of a medium-sized audience that doesn't make sense.

In other words, you don't want to have an audience you can't sell against or market against. You want to have an audience that you can say, 'these are who our viewers are, this is what our brand is and this is what our identity is.' A very clear proposition to both your consumers and also your advertisers and partners as to what that is.

BI: What do you think is the future for programming and original content on independent stations?

Ramona Bruland Plum TVMH: When I think of what we, everybody in the industry, is seeing is that the content is becoming more platform agnostic, but the number one driver continues to be high quality content. So I think that what we'll see as a trend is a continued investment in premium content regardless to what the platform is. I think that's what people have seen that's been a change over the last couple of years. People used to think "well people will watch anything on any platform." Well, that's not really true. What we've seen is that people will watch anything good on any platform. Not just anything on any platform.

BI: What do you predict, or what are your goals for the next five to ten years with Plum TV?

MH: I only know our goals for the next 12 months.

BI: What are your goals for the next year?

MH: I think our goals for Plum for the next year or two are to increase distribution. We're really focusing on increasing our lineal distribution right now.

BI: How do you plan to go grow distribution?

MH: By having a great product. The number one way to grow distribution is to have a great product that people want. Especially in a world with so much media and so many content creators and where you know everybody has a web camera and can create content and upload it online and you know just an explosion of product. The best way to expand is to grow distribution, is to have a great product.

A Day In The Life Of Designer Kimberly Ovitz During Fashion Week [Photos]

$

KImberly Ovitz fashion designer

Designer Kimberly Ovitz  launched her self-titled label in 2009 with a desire to translate her love of art, architecture and nature into the world of women’s contemporary fashion.

Four years later, Ovitz  the daughter of CAA co-founder and former President of the Walt Disney Company, Michael Ovitz commanded the attention of the likes of Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, designers Tory Burch and J. Crew's Jenna Lyons at her fall-winter 2013 show last week during New York Fashion Week.

Ovitz's latest collection, which she has said was inspired by"animals and insects and their innate protection systems," was received well by fashion critics, but she says it's not always easy to produce.

"I am usually in fashion hibernation for the month of January," Ovitz tells Business Insider. "I stay at the office later than usual, especially the last few weeks leading up to the show. I am usually there until midnight."

Part of what drives Ovitz is her desire to keep up with innovative technology and incorporate it into her own line. Her latest collection includes a jewelry line created in collaboration with 3-D printer Shapeways.

But even after the runway show is complete and the clothes are on store hangers, Ovitz's work never ends.

"I go directly into market after fashion week so life is not totally back to normal until the end of February," the 29-year-old designer tells us. "By the end of February I already have the next concept and am ready to start doing research."

But in the end, she says putting her personal life on hold and the late hours at the office are all worth it.

"I was so happy with the way the show turned out and was so thrilled about all the positive reviews," Ovitz continued. "My family was very proud of me."

Calm before the storm on the runway.

I rarely do my hair because I don’t like spending the time to do it. I came to the show site with wet hair and someone on the Aveda hair team treated me to a blow dry. Aveda did an amazing job transforming all the models' hair into corseted braids to complement the collection.

Looking on at a dress rehearsal an hour before the show to time the pace that the models walk to the music.

Bradley Cooper Naomi Watts Quvenzhane wallisAt nine years old, Quvenzhane Wallis is the second-youngest star to receive a Best Actress Nomination for her performance in "Beasts of the Southern Wild."

Meanwhile, at age 85, Emmanuelle Riva is the oldest actress to ever be nominated in the same category for her role in "Amour."

But they aren't the only two who have Hollywood buzzing right now.

32-year-old father-to-be Channing Tatum starred in three hit films last year, 22-year-old Jennifer Lawrence has become the most desirable woman in the world, and 46-year-old J.J. Abrams will be delivering a new "Star Wars" film (hopefully) by 2015.

We've gone through 2012's top directors, actors, highest-paid CEOs, and industry insiders to come up with the most influential people in Hollywood of the past year.

From Blue Ivy to Betty White, see who is making heads turn.

AGE 1: Blue Ivy

Daughter of Superstars Beyoncé and Jay-Z

What makes her powerful: We've barely caught any glimpses of the first daughter of Hip Hop, but with two musically inclined parents, Blue has some very big shoes — and vocals — to fill.

AGE 2: Abel Arnett

Son of Amy Poehler and Will Arnett

What makes him powerful: Though Abel's comedy power house parents may have split this year after nine years of marriage, there's no way the two year old didn't get the funny bone from the combination of his parents' comedic genius.

AGE 3: Mason Dash Disick

Son of reality stars Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick

What makes him powerful: Mason just turned three in December, but he's been getting face time on "Keeping up with the Kardashians" for some time.

In the past year, she's been sued for bank loans accruing up to nearly $3 million.

  • Earlier this month, the 42-year-old Grammy winner was sued by Bank of America after allegedly defaulting on a $500,000 loan.
  • Last November, the singer and her husband were sued for defaulting on a $2.2 million bank loan taken out in October of 2011 by the singer and her company, Mary Jane Productions Inc.

Clive Davis book the soundtrack of my life

Clive Davis — the 80-year-old record producer and music exec responsible for the careers of Whitney Houston, Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Rod Stewart, Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson, among others — has come out of the closet as a bisexual in his new memoir"The Soundtrack of My Life."

Despite being married twice and having four children, the current chief creative officer at Sony Music reveals he has had two serious relationships with men over the past 20 years.

Davis writes that his first same-sex sexual encounter came at Studio 24.

“Was I nervous?” writes Davis in "Soundtrack."“Absolutely. Did the heavens open up? No. But it was satisfying.”

Davis also reveals that he has been in “a strong monogamous relationship” with a man for the last seven years but makes it clear he considers himself as strictly bisexual, not gay.

“Do I feel I could have been similarly attracted to a woman?” Davis writes. “The answer is yes.”

"I’m not lying,” recently Davis told ABC's "Nightline." ”[Bisexuality] does exist. For over 50 years I never had sex with a male. It wasn’t repressed.  I had very good sexual relationships with women.”

"The Sound Track of My Life" also gives never-before-seen glimpses into Davis' close relationship with Whitney Houston, who he begged to get help before her untimely death, and his rocky working relationship Kelly Clarkson.

The memoir, co-written with Rolling Stone contributing editor Anthony DeCurtis, was published Tuesday by Simon & Schuster.
